Rugby Season Coming Along Nicely

So far, the Spring Rugby season has been great at Holliswood. Along with many wins and a Plate Championship, the team has been showing more signs of cohesion and poise. Our continued high level of play was displayed at this past Saturday's Tournament at Randall's Island. After a 4-0 record in our pool play round, we placed one of the top two seeds for the Cup Championship. In a very competitive game from start to finish, our Holliswood Bulldogs lost by one try. Some were sceptical of how well we would do after one of our veterans was sidelined the week prior in an accident. Our performance this weekend, is a great sign of our depth and perseverance as a team.

Another victory for the Bulldogs

In a tournament in the Bronx today, a mixture of players from the Holliswood Middle School competitive and developmental team were able to work well enough together to win the Plate Championship. A record 1 win, 1 draw, and 1 lose were good enough to advance to the Plate bracket, where the Bulldogs won their semi-final game by 1 try and won the championship match by 3 trys! The team, build mostly of 6th graders, showed that Holliswood Rugby has a great future still to come. Congratulations to the those players that were able to attend today's tournament. Comments so congratulated the team are always welcome.

A Championship To End The Season

The CHAMPS Winter has come to an end this weekend but not without Holliswood coming out on top. On Saturday, after a disappointing loss in the finals for the Cup Championship to MS 279, in a match that went to sudden death to be decided, our Holliswood team came out the victors in a rematch in the Cup Championship on Sunday. Despite missing some key players, a team captain and battling inclement weather, the Holliswood team stayed resilient and won the match that was forced into 5 additional minutes of sudden death overtime. Due to the inclement weather, an awards ceremony was not held but the winners trophy will be coming to the Holliswood School this week.
Congratulations to the Holliswood Flag Rugby players that were able to come out and compete this weekend during our culminating tournaments to the end of the winter season, as well as a special thank you to all the parents that helped with their wonderful support.

Today's Morning Tournament Will Take Place!

Good morning Holliswood Rugby family,
The decision has been made to cancel the afternoon tournament for today. The morning tournament will go on as planned. The hourly weather forecast indicates that there will be rain throughout the day so there is a possibility of a rainout if the weather gets too bad, but that decision would have to be made at the field. I always want to give the students as many opportunities as possible to play so I am choosing to keep us in the tournament this morning. Start time is promptly at 9am and estimated end time is 12pm. Feel free to email me at mrsanchez178@gmail.com if you have any questions or comments.
Lets Go Bulldogs!

The Tournaments are Here!!!

March 4, 2011,

Attention Parents/Guardians,

I would like to inform you that due to a large sign up for the Saturday morning tournament, I have chosen to pull our team out of the Saturday morning tournament, but we’ll still compete in the afternoon tournament. Arrival at Sheepshead Bay H.S. should be at 12p.m. for a 12:30p.m. kick-off.

For the Sunday tournaments, arrival at the Mott Haven Campus in the Bronx should be at 8:45a.m. for a 9:00am kickoff. Please remember that we will be competing in two tournaments on Sunday. (9:00a.m. and 12:30p.m.)

Players are required to wear their school gym shirt. Each player should also dress in layers as the tournaments will be held outdoors. Players should also bring water and snacks for the day. In the case of inclement weather, the tournaments will still be held. Please check our school athletics blogspot page for updates the morning of each tournament.
